| The Group’s
aim is to construct, equip and staff a new secondary school
on a hill-top site adjacent to the existing Got Matar
Primary School, and close to the community health centre.
The total capacity will be for 600 pupils,
with an annual intake of 150 of the 400 local children who
qualify each year for secondary school entry.
In addition to providing standard courses,
the school will offer computer training and teaching in
practical skills (e.g. woodwork, leatherwork, sewing,
dress-making, plumbing, building, agriculture etc), so as to widen job
opportunities for school leavers.
When complete, the school will contain 4 blocks of 3
classrooms, a science laboratory, a skills training
workshop, computer training centre, assembly/dining hall,
washrooms, dormitory facilities, teachers’ housing and
school office. Structures will be simple but robust. They
will be designed to fit well with the environment of the
hill-top site. Electricity needs will be met from roof-top
photo-voltaic generation and water supplies will be
collected from all roofs. |
Construction and equipment costs are
estimated at Euro 250,000. A further Euro 50,000 are sought
to provide bursaries for children from poor families,
especially orphans, to enable them to attend both primary
and secondary schools.
Construction will be phased over 4 years
to match the build-up in the number of students, a
progressive growth in the number of teachers and the need to
provide boarding facilities for children from far-away parts
of the District.
