| The
total amount of funds so far raised amounts to about Euro
245,600, or around 80% of the original target of Euro
300,000. These funds have covered not only the cost of
buildings but also payments for bursaries that enable about
160 children to attend the school, who would otherwise have
been excluded because of their guardians’ or parents’
inability to meet basic schooling costs. All funds contributed by
donors are provided to the Community, as Andrew and Roberta
MacMillan meet all administrative and publicity costs from
their own resources.
Within Kenya, the school has raised funds
through a “harambee” and from the Constituency Development
Fund. The Ministry of Education has provided grants towards
the cost of laboratory equipment and teachers’ salaries.
Given the excellent progress that has been made with the
funds already paid in, potential contributors can be
confident that their donations will be well invested, and
open up new opportunities in life for all the children who
will attend Got Matar Secondary School in the years to come.
Bursaries
Alternatively you may wish to contribute
to our Bursary Fund which supports orphans who are
unable to afford the school tuition fees. See
here for Bursary details.
Computers
There is also a separate Computer Fund
to help towards the purchase of computers with internet
access for the school. See here
for Computer fund information.

Donors have
2 options for making payments to the Got Matar
Community Development Group (GMCDG).
1. In the
UK, the charity “Promoting Equality in African Schools”
(PEAS), which is
building and managing low-fee secondary schools in Africa,
has kindly agreed to collect funds on behalf of donors and
forward them to GMCDG.
2. In
Italy, SONIA, an Association which is funding
small-scale projects in developing countries, mostly with an
educational component, has generously offered to help in
raising funds and in administering donations. See
here for more information on
SONIA.
Please print out and complete the
preferred donation form and return it with your cheque or
inter-bank transfer instructions to
the address provided.
It is suggested that payments be made in
£ sterling via PEAS, and in Euro via SONIA. Both
PEAS and SONIA can receive other currencies but will incur
exchange costs.
UK residents, please remember to fill in
the Gift Aid section at the bottom of the PEAS form. |
